During the last twenty years, the Ca 'Foscari University and IUAV University have relocated one part of the venues on the mainland, in particular the laboratories that need spaces and safety standards that would have been difficult to respect in the ancient historical centre of Venice. This place was chosen for the university venues as it is in a central position between the islands and the mainland and can be quickly reached from the Mestre station and from Piazzale Roma in Venice by public transport and is now also connected to a cycle paths by the new cycle-pedestrian bridge of the Fort Marghera. Via Torino, where it is located, is a street characterized - in its western stretch - by accommodations, commercial spaces, offices and precisely the University venues.
